Bhagwan (Bob) Dashairya, Ph.D., P.E., MBA, local community activist, has filed to run for Governor of Michigan in the 2006 election representing the U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan.
He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Detroit Wayne County Health Authority. He is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Westland Economic Development Corporation, Westland Downtown Development Authority, and the Westland Tax Increment Finance Authority and also a former commissioner on the Westland Economic Advisory Commission and the Dearborn Cable TV Commission.
A resident of Westland, he has been involved in a wide variety of civic organizations since he came to the United States from India 40 years ago. He became a naturalized American citizen in 1977.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Allahabad University in Allahabad, India, a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Banaras Hindu University in Banaras, India, an MBA from Davenport University in Dearborn, and a Ph.D. in engineering science from the University of Mississippi.
Bob currently serves as the President and CEO of the management consulting firm Dashairya & Associates and also as executive director of the Council of Organizations of Asian Indians in Michigan or COAIM. He is a community leader member of ALPACT and former trustee of New Detroit Coalition. He is happily married for 32 years and has three grown children who have all attended U of M and MSU.
“I came to America in 1966 with $8 in my pocket,” said Bob, “and this state and this country have been good to me. I want to help improve the conditions in Michigan to restore it to its former economic strength and image.”
The U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan does not believe in campaign matching funds so Bob is running a real grass roots campaign. He said, “I know it is an uphill battle to get people in Michigan to know who I am and what I stand for. But if they believe that they deserve a choice for governor besides those running as a Democrat or Republican, they will see that I am the right candidate.
“Michigan is in need of a major change in Lansing, someone who believes in less government, self-reliance on energy, fewer taxes and more reliance on the Constitution as our guide to governance. That’s what I represent and I have the skills and experience to lead Michigan in that direction,” he said.
The U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan is the Michigan arm of the Constitution Party begun by Robert Tisch, which is fielding candidates in other state and national elections. Bob Dashairya’s running mate is Coloma resident Carl Oehling.
